Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool – Match Report

A late Nordi Mukiele own goal denies Sunderland their first win at Anfield since 1983.

Florian Wirtz hoped that the goal would’ve been his, after he pounced on a mistake by Chemsdine Talbi, he dribbled into the box past a few players before getting a shot away that took a huge deflection off Mukiele and past Roefs.

Sunderland took a well deserved lead halfway through the 2nd half, after Talbi tried his luck from 25-yards out, and his shot came off Van Dijk and into the bottom corner, sending the 3000 macks into bedlam.

The Black Cats caused Liverpool plenty of problems, especially in the first half.

Trai Hume hit the crossbar from a long range strike, after his hit was partied onto the bar by Allison.

Sunderland also hit the post early in the 2nd half, as Alderete won a header from a corner that bounced off the outside of the post.

Wilson Isidor had a huge opportunity in the dying moments after Robin Roefs quickly kicked the ball up to him, and he tried to take it past Allison but took too long and his shot was cleared off the line by Chiesa.

Sunderland fans will have definitely taken that before kickoff, but they will undoubtedly feel slightly disappointed that they didn’t come away with all 3 points.

That being said, it was yet another performance to be proud of, and to say we are slightly disappointed with a draw against Liverpool shows just how far Sunderland have come.

Sunderland stay in 6th place, just one point off the top 4, and Liverpool sit 8th, 2 points off the top 4.
