Sunderland 1-2 Ipswich – Match Report

10-man Sunderland lose their first game of the season at home to Ipswich Town, despite being unlucky not to steal a point at the death.

Sunderland dominated the first half, but they struggled to create any real chances in the final third.

Former Black Cat, Nathan Broadhead, capitalised on Sunderland’s wasted chances as Leif Davis’ shot is deflected off Broadhead and it crept in passed a stranded Patterson.

Ipswich started the second-half the better of the 2 sides, and they doubled their lead just 8 minutes into the half, as Nathan Broadhead’s through ball found George Hirst, and he smashed the ball into the net.

Trai Hume saw red with 20 minutes remaing, after getting his second yellow card, after he brought down Davis, who was attacking down the left-hand side.

Sunderland actually looked more dangerous after this, and they managed to restore a lifeline in the 85th minute.

Dennis Cirkin’s cross was met brilliantly by Dan Neil, who passed the ball into the net, first time.

The Black Cats almost stole a point at the death, as Nial Huggins’ cross was also met by Dan Neil at the back post, but his volley was saved onto the post!
