Sunderland 2-2 Watford – Match Report
Dennis Cirkin scores late on to steal a point for The Black Cats, in what was a very lethargic performance against an out of form Watford side.
Sunderland miss out on a chance to go level on points with 2nd place Burnley after yet another draw at home.
Watford ended their 3-game losing streak, but they will be bitterly disappointed not to take home all 3 points.
It was a similar story to other games to begin with, Sunderland went in front, thanks to an early goal from Luke O’Nien on a brilliant corner tactic, but they went on to sit back and invite pressure.
Watford equalized just before half-time, with a penalty after Dennis Cirkin brought down Mamadou Doumbia in the area.
Tom Dele-Bashiru stepped up calmly, and sent Patterson the wrong way.
Watford took the lead within seconds of the 2nd half, Imrân Louza fired a wonderful curling shot into the top corner from 25-yards-out.
Sunderland managed to score in the 89th minute, from a corner again!
Le Fee took it low towards the front post, Isidor flicked it on to Cirkin, who did very well to direct the ball home.
Despite being so poor, Sunderland came extremely close to scoring the winner, twice towards the end.
Mayenda played Isidor one-on-one with the ‘keeper, but he didn’t connect with the ball properly, and it was well saved.
Moments later, Milan Aleksic showed his pace and went one-on-one with the ‘keeper as well, but he never looked confident and struck it straight at the goalkeeper.
Next up for Sunderland is Luton Town on Wednesday at home.
