Sunderland VS Coventry – Match Preview & Prediction
Coventry travel to the Stadium of Light in the play off semi-final second leg, as the Black Cats go into the match 2-1 up on aggregate.
Sunderland ended their horrid form when travelling to Coventry in the first leg, as they won there for the first time since 1985.
However, the last time the beat them at home was back in 2007, but a draw will do for Sunderland to make their way down Wembley Way once again.
The winner of the tie will play Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium in the final on Saturday 24th May.
Going into the playoffs, many questioned whether Sunderland would be able to just “switch back on” after a horrible run of 5 straight defeats at the end of the regular season, but they certainly did in the away leg.
Hopefully they can keep it up in the home leg, as just a draw would be enough for them to make it through.
Its been 8 years since the Black Cats were relegated from the Premier League, and since they they suffered a 2nd successive relegation, 4 years in League One, a promotion via the playoffs to the Championship and now they have the chance to finally return to the biggest stage, and this means everything.
Over 46,500 tickets have been sold, making it Sunderland’s largest attendance since they beat Chelsea 3-2 back in 2016.
In 2022, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday broke the record of the highest combined attendance in any Football League playoff semi-final, but them and Coventry are now on track to break that record again.
Team News
Sunderland have almost the exact same squad options that they had in the first leg, apart from Romaine Mundle could be back from his injury.
Prediction
Sunderland 1-1 Coventry
