Three men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery which struck a Houghton shop on the first week of the year.
An investigation was launched after three masked intruders raided Burnside Stores in Houghton-le-Spring on Monday, January 2.
It was said that three men entered the Woodburn Drive shop and made off with a bottle of alcohol.
Northumbria Police confirmed on Tuesday that three arrests have since been made in connection with an incident at the shop. A spokesperson for the force said: “Three males have since been arrested on suspicion of robbery. They have been released on police bail with enquiries ongoing.”
It is alleged that three men entered the store and threatened a member of staff before attempting to break the lock off a vape cabinet. Police claim the lock was unable to be broken, before a bottle of spirits was taken and that no injuries were caused.
