Watford 1-0 Sunderland – Match Report

The Black Cats lose yet again in what was another extremely disappointing display at Vicarage Road, as a Ryan Andrews strike in the second-half secured Watford’s first home victory since November.

Sunderland have dropped down to 15th in the table, and they have been leapfrogged by today’s opponents, who moved up to 14th.

Second-half substitute, Ryan Andrews scored the only goal of the match, after being played through by Ismaël Kone, and he fired the ball across Patterson and into the bottom left corner.

Patrick Roberts had a glorious opportunity to level the game at the death, as Hemir squared it to Roberts, who looked like he couldn’t miss, but he somehow fell over the ball and squandered the chance.

Jack Clarke also had several opportunities to score in the second-half, but he wasn’t able to really trouble the goalkeeper with any of his attempts, a shadow of himself since he returned from his injury.

The loss means it is now just 2 wins in 12 matches for Michael Dodds since taking over temporarily from Michael Beale.

Credit to Watford Football Club, as they put a picture of the late Charlie Hurley on the scoreboard on the 87th minute, in honour of Sunderland’s player of the century, who sadly passed away earlier this week, aged 87.

Next up for Sunderland, they face Sheffield Wednesday in the final game of the season, at The Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Wednesday are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table, but a 3-0 win against play-off chasing, West Brom, has put them in the driving seat for Saturday, as they sit 3 points above the dropzone.
