50 Years On: Sunderland VS Arsenal – FA Cup Semi-Final

55,000 people crammed into Hillsborough Stadium in a highly anticipated semi-final.
It was the first time Sunderland had gotten that far in the competition in 17 years.
Sunderland took the lead early in the game as Halom was able to cause a mix up at the back, and put the ball in the net.
Despite being the underdogs once again, Sunderland kept making chances, and they were unlucky to go in at half-time at just 1-0.
The only player who caused Sunderland any real problems was George Armstrong, whose deflected effort late into the first-half was brilliantly saved by Jimmy Montgomery.
In the second-half, Arsenal went all out attack, which led to them being open to the counter-attack.
10 minutes later, Sunderland doubled their lead as Bobby Kerr took a long throw-in, which was flicked on by Tueart, and Hughes was able to header the ball past Wilson in goal.
Arsenal clawed a goal back with 6 minutes remaining, with a strike from George, but it was not enough for Arsenal, and Second Division side, Sunderland made it through to the FA Cup final to face Leeds United!
