Swansea City 2-3 Sunderland – Match Report

Sunderland come back from 2-0 down to win 2-3 with a magnificent second half showing, and goals from Dan Ballard, Dan Neil and Jobe Bellingham.

The Black Cats move up to 3rd and keep the pressure on the top 2, after Leeds United dropped points against Preston North End.

Sunderland really struggled in the first-half, and found themselves 2-0 down after just 17 minutes, thanks to goals from Zan Vipotnik, and Liam Cullen.

The first goal was caused by a calamity at the back, after Ballard and Mepham both challenged for a header and the ball hung in the air with Patterson nowhere to be seen and Vipotnik couldn’t miss.

The second goal was also caused by an error, as Jobe gave away a free-kick in a dangerous position, and Liam Cullen whipped in a perfect free-kick into the top corner.

Despite not playing well, Sunderland did half the deficit 10 minutes later, from a rare set-peice goal.

Trai Hume put in a delightful ball, and Dan Ballard headed into the back of the net to put Sunderland back into the game.

The second-half was a different story, Sunderland absolutely dominated play and Swansea just couldn’t handle the pressure.

Itnstarted to look like just one of those days for The Black Cats, but in the 73rd minute, Dan Neil let rip and absolute rocket into the top corner to bring Sunderland level.

Just over a minute later, Sunderland turned the game around and scored what turned out to be the winning goal.

Patrick Roberts played in Chris Rigg on the right-hand side, and he pulled the ball back into Jobe, who finished calmly past the ‘keeper.

Sunderland now sit just 2 points behind Leeds United in 2nd.

Next up for Sunderland, they face Norwich City at The Stadium of Light next Saturday in their final match before Christmas.

MoTM – Dan Neil or Jobe, both fantastic in the 2nd half.
