Coventry vs Sunderland- Match Preview & Prediction

The Black Cats travel down to Coventry as they look to bounce back after a disappointing result at Rotherham in midweek.

Sunderland fans and Coventry fans are known for having a rivalry due to Sunderland’s relegation in the 1976/77 season.

If Sunderland were beaten on the final day, Coventry and Bristol City only needed to draw against each other to avoid the drop.

The game was postponed 15 minutes due to traffic congestion, and Sunderland were beaten by Everton.

With 10 minutes to go in Coventry’s game, Chairman, Jimmy Hill announced the Sunderland score over the tannoy to alert the fans and the players that if the result stayed the same, they would both stay up.

After this, neither side tried to score and the game ended with Sunderland’s relegation.

The Black Cats have struggled against The Sky Blues in recent times, failing to win in their last 5 attempts, the last time coming in a 2-0 home win in 2007.

The two sides met on the opening day of the season in an enthralling game which ended 1-1.

Jack Clarke scored an early header, but Viktkr Gyokeres scored the equaliser with just 5 minutes remaining, a brilliant strike from 20-yards out.

There are no new injuries in the squad following the Rotherham game, but Lyden Gooch and Niall Huggins still remain on the sidelines as they edge closer to their return.

Prediction
