Queen’s Park Rangers 0-0 Sunderland – Match Report

10-man Sunderland hold on for a point after Jobe Bellingham saw red for the first time in his career.

Sunderland’s lead at the top of the table drops to 3 points, after Leeds and Sheffield United won their matches.

Jobe Bellingham received his first red card of his career early in the second-half, after a high challenge on Zan Celar in the middle of the park.

Bellingham was battling in the middle for the ball, and after a loose touch, he went lunging in on Celar and caught him in the shin with his studs.

There was no intent on injuring the player, but it was a dangerous challenge.

It wasn’t Sunderland’s best performance, but they had the 2 clearest chances of the match in the first half.

Wilson Isidor had a chance in the first half, after being picked out by Trai Hume, but his snap shot went just wide after being challenged by Steve Cook.

Dan Neil almost scored a wonder goal too, after Roberts picked out O’Nien with a deep corner, and O’Nien’s cushioned header found Neil on the edge of the box, who’s volley struck the post.

Despite playing just over half an hour with 10 men, Sunderland held their shape well, and really limited QPR’s chances to mainly shouts from far out.

They did have 2 decent chances, though, one coming in the first-half from Steve Cook, who’s header from a corner, luckily went straight at Simon Moore.

A very similar chance came late on in the second-half, where another close range header went straight into Moore’s gloves.

Simon Moore didn’t really have a significant save to make, which shows how difficult Sunderland made it for the home team, despite being a man down.

QPR stay second bottom, 2 points adrift in the relegation zone, and they will look at this as a missed opportunity to have climbed out of the bottom 3.

Next up for Sunderland is, yet another away match at Preston on Wednesday night, as they’ll look to improve their gap at the top of the league.
